Arakain’s “S.O.S” in a new rerelease on CD with rare bonus tracks

The mid-nineties were not the best time for the domestic heavy metal scene. Genres like grunge and crossover were still very popular in our country, and the electronic revolution was coming. Metal bands had a very difficult task at that time. Declining concert audiences, ever weaker record sales and Prague’s Arakain were also having a tough time. Singer Aleš Brichta had been successfully building a solo career for two years, and his home band had released a full-length album for the last time in 1993. Only the English reissue of their debut and the “Legendy” (Legends) rework album filled the void. The title “S.O.S” was so obvious.

In the summer of 1995 the writing trio Kub / Mach / Urban got together for the first part of the recording sessions. The final completion took place in the autumn of that year and the result was a collection of twelve tracks. All of them were signed by the aforementioned trio, who also produced the album together with Brichta, the band’s court lyricist. The quintet continued to follow the established lineage of moving away from thrash metal towards classic, raw heavy and stomping groove metal.

The digipak CD reissue offers three special bonus tracks. The first one is Vládci strachu (Lords of Fear) from the Spark in the Dark compilation. The second is the absolutely secret Zapomenutej bojovník (Forgotten Warrior), preserved only on cassette. The last bonus is a demo recording of the song Blázni víry (Fools of Faith), sung by guitarist Jiří Urban as a kind of guide for Aleš Brichta.
