Croatia Records Release Information

Duhovi (The Spirits) are a new rock band from Slovenia founded by Boris Bele, the long-time frontman of the legendary band Buldožer (Bulldozer) from Ljubljana.

They introduced themselves to a wider public in Croatia a little over a month ago with the single “Tvoja mama to radi” (Your Mother Does It), whose video has been viewed more than 6.000 times on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2E71QoKJc0. Along with the brilliant Bele, Duhovi feature three top Slovenian musicians: Luka Vehar (solo guitar), Miklavž “Miki” Ašič (bass guitar) and Žiga Kožar (drums), and their entire visual identity was taken care of by the Zagreb artist Dalibor Barić.

On the wings of their first single, Duhovi are presenting the album “Dobri duhovi prošlosti” (Good Spirits of the Past), which features 10 top rock songs in Serbocroatian by music and lyrics author Boris Bele, while the arrangements are signed by the entire band. Along with Bele, who formed the backbone of the progressive rock band of the late 70s and 80s, another of Bele’s old friends and collaborators from Buldožer is the author of this album.

This is Borut Činč, former keyboardist for Buldožer, and today the producer of “Dobri duhov prošlosti”. The music of Duhovi has its roots in blues, R’n’B and Rock ’n’ Roll, and six future hits, as Bele predicted on the CD cover, will certainly find their way to radio stations across the Yugoslavian region.

The music critic Aleksandar Dragaš writes about Duhovi and the witty blues of an “old rocker”: “At first glance, one would say that Bele’s sharp and spare production by Borut Činč belongs only to the grumbling of an “old rocker” with his blues. But such an impression would be completely wrong, because Bele’s songs are actually sharp-witted and hilarious observations of fatal social phenomena of the 21st century, presented in the form of blues, which many think should not be witty…

Bele can still sing today “we are evil, corrupt old men” who, out of spite for the young, “don’t want to die” yet. And who – at least in the case of Boris Bele and his sparkling, potent and colorful blues album with a touch of psychedelia, surf and garage rock – have a better time than most of the significantly younger guys and girls. Even when he is more and more like a “lonely rider” who is just looking for a “crying room” and what kind of lady to give him “he takes off his boots” to take a nap after a hard day’s work with a guitar, a microphone and a bar. In short, viva Bele’s siesta, but also his blues fiesta!”
