Warner Music Poland Release Information



The album “Masakra” (SACD Hybrid) by Republika from 1998 in the series “Polskie Nagrania Catalogue Selections”. This is the first edition of this album in the SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) format. The choice of this format is a nod to audiophiles.

Originally released on 23 November 1998, “Masakra” (Massacre) marked Republika’s grand, triumphant return to their characteristic, raw image and musical ferocity. The songwriting duo of Grzegorz Ciechowski and Zbigniew Krzywański created an uncompromising work in which the band’s classic guitar and keyboard sound blended perfectly with modern samples and 1990s trip-hop electronics.

The album was promoted by the brilliant, provocative “Mamona” (Mammon, a gripping treatise on writing songs for money) and the heart-wrenching, timeless ballad “Odchodząc” (Leaving). Unfortunately, Grzegorz Ciechowski’s sudden death in 2001 meant that this became the band’s final studio testament. The cover features the famous photograph of a bull with black-and-white stripes by Andrzej Świetlik.
