Polish big beat with a soulful twist. Twelve expressive songs sung by Halina Frąckowiak, Wojciech Gąssowski and Jerzy Kozłowski – with dynamic accompaniment from the band, which replaced the electric guitar with two saxophones, an organ and a superb bass. A new edition, supplemented with recordings from singles and compilations.

Andrzej Nebeski, an outstanding drummer known from Niebiesko-Czarni and Polanie, decided to form his own band in the late 1960s. Fascinated by soul rhythms, in which he felt perfectly at home, he created a project whose sound went beyond anything else happening on the Polish music scene at the time. ABC’s music, centred on the saxophone duo of Zbigniew Karwacki and Aleksander Michalski, sounded feisty and stylish. Although the band had as many as three vocalists, Halina Frąckowiak undoubtedly took the centre stage, her expressive voice fit perfect for ABC’s sound. The group’s debut album from 1970 captures the band at the height of their powers, refining their soul sound to absolute perfection.

Grupa ABC Andrzeja Nebeskiego (Andrzej Nebeski’s Group ABC) returns on CD, remastered from the original tapes in the Polskie Nagrania archive. The album is supplemented by tracks from the band’s debut EP, including the huge hit “Napisz proszę” (Please Write), an export single and a compilation. The booklet features excellent photographs of the band and a history of the group.
