Croatia Records Release Information

The special edition of Guitar Sings by Vlatko Stefanovski containes instrumental versions of songs from the project “Đorđe Novković – Hitmaker”, ten Đorđe Novković evergreens recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studio One.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by the famous conductor and Grammy award winner, Steve Sidwell. The release’ graphic design was done by iCC Kelčec, while the album was mixed, mastered, and produced by Goran Martinac.

“I am very happy to be a part of this project; being in that context is something very special. I received an offer from Croatia Records to create 10 instrumental versions of songs that are part of Đorđe Novković’s great opus and the major project “Hitmaker”. It is such a luxurious and ambitious project that I gladly accepted the invitation, ” said Vlatko Stefanovski.

With this release, Croatia Records further expands the story of the “Đorđe Novković – Hitmaker” project and brings the audience a new, intimate, and masterfully played musical experience backed by guitar virtuoso Vlatko Stefanovski.

The “Đorđe Novković – Hitmaker” project is dedicated to one of the most significant Yugoslavian composers and confirms that Đorđe Novković’s musical legacy has shaped the pop music scene of the region.

The album features orchestral versions of the songs “Zora je” (Dawn), “Nada” (Hope), “Žuta ruža” (Yellow Rose), “Ostala si uvijek ista” (You’ve always Been the Same), “Ako me ostaviš” (If You Leave Me), “Virujen u te” (I Believe in You), “Južnjaci” (Southerners), “Stari Pjer” (Old Pierre), “Prva noć sa njom” (First Night with Her) and “Takav je život” (Such Is Life).

“Đorđe Novković is an absolute composer, not just in the territory of former Yugoslavia, but much further afield. Because of his songs, he will never die, never. On the day we are together, other singers will be recording these songs,” said Mišo Kovač.

The recordings were made with the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Steve Sidwell, at the legendary Abbey Road Studio One in London and at the Croatia Records Studio in Zagreb. Twenty-nine Croatian instrumentalists, nine arrangers, and ten top soloists participated, whose interpretations have defined Novković’s body of work.

The album “Đorđe Novković – Hitmaker” is available on LP and as a CD + Blu-ray set. The Blu-ray edition includes a music documentary film that showcases the project’s creation, along with personal stories from all the participants and their reflections on the songs.
