Croatia Records Release Information

To mark the 40th anniversary of the release of the iconic Partibrejkers’ (Party Breakers) seminal debut album, Croatia Records is presenting its deluxe vinyl reissue.

Like no one in the Yugoslavian region before or since, Partibrejkers from Belgrade introduced a unique sound on their debut album, infused with influences from blues, garage rock and punk, and an authentic streetwise experience and passion that was reflected in their lyrics. Different from the start, with a line-up of two guitars and no bass guitar, and in a unique production by Dušan “Koja” Kojić, the Partibrejkers recorded one of the boldest Yugoslavian albums, which with its energy and freshness continues to delight until today.

From the opening “Ako si” to the closing “Večeras”, Cane, Anton, Ljuba and Manzanera (Zoran Kostić, Nebojša Antonijević, Ljubiša Kostadinović and Goran Bulatović) delivered 12 songs in a furious thirty-minute burst that became essential listening in Yugoslavia – “Ulični hodač” (Street Walker), “Noć” (Night), “1000 godina” (A Thousand Years), “Hej ti, dole u mraku” (Hey You, down in the Dark), “Ona živi na brdu” (She Lives on a Hill)…

In the booklet accompanying this reissue, the Belgrade music critic Aleksandar Žikić states: “At the time of its release, the album “Partibrejkers” represented an excess of serious proportions, a kind of slip, a glitch in the system. The system is not inclined towards people who are not prepared to submit to it.

Its methods of coercion are harsh, brutal and designed to find everyone’s breaking point. Painfully often, they are successful. But not always. By no means always. The Partibrejkers are irrefutable proof of this. They are not just a band that has endured countless trials and not only survived, but has progressed throughout and continues to do so.

Their debut album is not just one of the finest records in the history of authentic Yugoslavian rock ’n’ roll. It is also a precious beacon for all those whom the upside-down and arrogant public key-turners have tried to convince are potential losers simply because they don’t fit into the general deception, don’t care for the dictats of the unworthy, and refuse to take part in the artificial popular merriment.”

The album was remastered by Goran Martinac at Croatia Records Studio, while the lacquer cut of the album at London’s Abbey Road Studios was done by Sean Magee. The release also includes a download card with a code to download the album’s MP3 version.

Along with the 180 gram, blue-purple vinyl, the album also comes with a booklet containing photographs by Goranka Matić and Stanislav Milojković. The artwork for the reissue is the work of Darko Kujundžić.
