Croatia Records Release Information

Originally released in 1994 for PGP RTS, “Zašto da ne!” (Why not!) has been Električni Orgazam’s (Electric Orgasm) first double album and also the first full studio album recorded since “Letim, sanjam, dišem” (I Fly, I Dream, I Breathe, 1988) and “Seks, droga, nasilje i strah / Balkan horor rok” (Sex, Drugs, Violence and Fear / Balkan Horror Rock, 1992), which contained both studio and live tracks.

Alongside Gile, Banana, Švaba and Čavke (Srđan Gojković, Branislav Petrović, Zoran Radomirović and Goran Čavajda), the recording featured Dejan Radisavljević (guitar), Zoran Zagorčić (keyboards) and Srđan “Žika” Todorović on second drums, while Zoran “Cane” Kostić, Manja Đorđević, Nenad Petrović and others appeared as guests. Also, “Zašto da ne!” has been the last album by Električni Orgazam on which Čavke, their original drummer, played.

Stylistically in the vein of “Lišće prekriva Lisabon” (Leaves Cover Lisbon) and “Distorzija” (Distortion), and with strong influences from funk, psychedelia and 1960s garage rock, the album offered several classics that would find a permanent place in the band’s live repertoire – “Da si tako jaka” (If You Were so Strong), “Spojimo se sad” (Let’s Get together now), “Metadonska terapija” (Methadone Therapy) and “Daj mi sklonište” (Give Me Shelter). Following Gile’s idea, the cover, in the style of Robert Crumb and Tanino Liberatore, was illustrated by Leonid Pilipović, a well-known comic book artist and guitarist of Goblini (The Goblins).

In his review of the album, Srđan “Gile” Gojković, the frontman of Električni Orgazam, says: ““Zašto da ne!” is definitely one of my favourite albums by the band. Električni Orgazam was in top form and at one of its creative peaks. The previous album, “Balkan Horror Rock” from 1992, was half studio and half live. This was mainly because at that time no one was willing to finance the recording of an album, so the studio side was actually recorded during a soundcheck at Studio M in Novi Sad, where we also recorded the live portion. This meant we couldn’t record some of the songs, so we ended up with a lot of material for the new album, which is why it became a double album in the end.

I approached it in the spirit of my favourite double albums, such as “The White Album” by The Beatles, “Exile on Main St.” by The Rolling Stones, “London Calling” by The Clash and “Electric Ladyland” by Jimi Hendrix. This implied stylistic diversity, so songs that could have been on “Lišće prekriva Lisabon” (Leaves Cover Lisbon) or “Distorzija” (Distortion) ended up on the same album. At the same time, it has been the band’s most expensive album on the collector’s market, where it was selling for as much as 200 euros. I’m really looking forward to it being available again, especially for a new audience, who might not even have been born when we originally released it.”

The album was remastered by Goran Martinac at Croatia Records Studio, while the artwork for the reissue was created by Darko Kujundžić. This reissue, pressed on 180-gram coloured vinyl, was realised in collaboration with the original label, PGP RTS.
