GAD Records Release Information

No To Co gained their place on the Polish music scene in the late 1960s with a combination of intricate vocal harmonies, psychedelic guitars and Polish folklore. Now the band’s debut album “Nikifor” (named after the Polish painter Epifaniusz Drowniak, who was also called Nikifor Krynicki) returns in a remastered version with eight bonus tracks.

No To Co made their official debut in December 1967, quickly gaining recognition from both critics and audiences. On the one hand, they tried (with varying degrees of success) to combine rock music with Polish folklore, and on the other, they were able to perfectly incorporate psychedelic elements from the US American west coast into their style – even though, as they sang themselves, “Nigdy nie byli w San Francisco…” (They had never been to San Francisco...).

Their debut album “Nikifor” is a summary of the band’s first year of activity – a colourful marriage of folk music arrangements (“Te opolskie dziouchy” (Those Girls from Opole), “Zielony mosteczek” (Green Bridge)) and original compositions (“Nikifor”, “Inne kwiaty” (Other Flowers)).

“Nikifor” returns on CD, remastered from the original tapes from the Polskie Nagrania archive. The album is complemented by eight tracks from the band’s first two EPs. The booklet contains an extensive history No To Co’s beginnings, photos and memorabilia. The reissue is released as part of the partnership between GAD Records and Polskie Nagrania / Warner Music Poland.
