Croatia Records Release Information

The exclusive triple LP edition of “Treći svijet – Soundtrack” (The Third World – Soundtrack) by Haustor (House Gate) is now on sale.

This is a richly equipped vinyl set that accompanies the documentary film “Treći svijet” (The Third World) directed by Arsen Oremović and contains original new music by the band Haustor, unreleased demos and live recordings, as well as legendary studio recordings.

“This compilation is not a retrospective or a “best of” of Haustor, but a sound picture of the film. Some songs were extracted for the first time from private archives, some were created from (semi)improvisation, some restored from time-worn tapes, and some are well-known hits or cult pieces. All of them went through a dialogue with the film, as highlights, sound illustrations and bridges to the themes it opens. Together they form a cross-section of Haustor’s stylistic breadth, working processes and poetic commitment, without the ambition to be “greatest hits”, but with the intention of conveying what makes them authentic”, the director and author of the compilation Arsen Oremović says about the compilation.

“From the beginning, both the protagonists and I avoided the classic biographical approach. My urge was to make a film about the aesthetics and authorial vision of Darko Rundek and Srđan Sacher, and this was best possible through what shaped them and merged into the cult album “Treći svijet”, whose fate, from the initial misunderstanding to the status of one of the most important albums of Yugoslavian rock, is a film in itself. This is the story of two artists, completely different people, who at one point, the same inclination towards poetics and magical realism led them to jump over the fence together. That happened then and never again. But that one jump was so strong that it still resonates today”.

The album “Treći svijet – Soundtrack” was announced with two special singles.

The song “Neobičan dan” (An Unusual Day) was recorded live at the “Zagreb gori” (Zagreb Is Burning) concert in 1996. It was also the last public performance of Haustor as the group of Darko Rundek, Srđan Sacher, Srđan “Gul” Gulić, Zoran “Zexa” Zajec and Damir “Capri” Prica, and the recording is now officially released for the first time with a new mix and mastering. This song, included on the original album “Treći svijet” (1984), never had the status of a single, although according to many it deserved it. The video accompanying the new release visualized the band gathering at the premiere of the film in Sarajevo, which was an emotional return to a Yugoslavian time and generation for the audience and critics.

The second single is a performance of the song “Mijenjam se” (I Am Changing) from the Zagreb Biennale in 1981. It was the first public performance of the song, and at the same time a rare opportunity for the then alternative scene to appear in an institutional context of ozbiljna glazba (classical music). This recording, the only one preserved from that legendary concert, existed for years in poor quality – with incompletely recorded channels, parts that did not reach the mixing desk and sound layers worn away over time. It was restored for the purposes of the film “Treći svijet”. The goal was not to “beautify”, but to clean and amplify what was already there in that raw, punk-charged, precise performance.

The mastering of the album “Treći svijet” (The Third World) was done by Goran Martinac at the Croatia Records studio, while the final lacquer cut master was done by the Grammy-winning Sean Magee at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

The triple LP edition is available for sale from today, while the film “Treći svijet”, distributed by Restart, will enter the regular cinema distribution in early October 2025.
