Warner Music Poland Release Information

Maanam’s fourth studio album “Mental Cut” maintained at the highest level and was closing the band’s first classic period. It has been a unique album by Maanam from the mid-1980s, radically different from anything they recorded before or after. The hits from this album, such as “Simple Story”, “Lucciola” and “Lipstick on the Glass” are melodic, “smoother” and more unpretentious than they were before. There is also room for the relaxed, light instrumental track “Przerwa na papierosa” (Cigarette Break), which gives the impression of a polished jam session piece.

The “Mental Cut” album was created under difficult conditions – the musicians were constantly on the move between Cracow and Berlin. Some tracks, such as “Simple Story” and “You or Me”, were recorded in English, while others are in Polish. But, paradoxically, this captures the specific atmosphere of the time. A time when the communist system was coming to an end and slowly everyone realised that change was coming, a new order that would turn everything upside down.

On the 40th anniversary of its release, it has been reissued with bonus tracks that did not make it onto the English-language part of the album, unique photos of the band by Sławomir Kosmynka from the promotional session for “Mental Cut” and a “Studio Hi-Fi” concert from November 1985, one of their last concerts before Maanam went on hiatus.
