150 minutes of blues in 40 ways

The tenth anniversary compilation in the 2CD series on the history of Czechoslovakian rock music goes back in time. The range of years when the recordings were released is significant: the first ones date back to 1968, the last ones to 1989, i.e. from the brief cultural revival at the end of the 1960s to the year when the policy of “normalization” came to an end. For various reasons, not everything that could be heard at the time was recorded.

After the great gramophone boom, a gloomy publishing silence descended, fortunately interrupted by singles and albums by Framus Five, Jazz Q, Flamengo, and others. The founding fathers of domestic blues rock from The Matadors and Blue Effect partly emigrated and partly hid in art rock, jazz rock, or fusion groups, often welcome and unprovocatively instrumental.

Blues echoes continued to resonate in the work of Vladimír Mišík and Michal Prokop, while Luboš Andršt and Peter Lipa’s Blues Band and ASPM with Jan Spálený and Petr Kalandra were absolute certainties. A younger generation of musicians emerged from Prague’s Hanspaulka neighborhood, originally playing in a central pub and continuing to offer blues in various forms to this day.

A total of 150 minutes of music and 40 songs is certainly not everything that was produced in our country over the past twenty years, but as a symbol of the times and a reminder of important names, it can serve as entertainment for those who remember and as a refresher course for their children and even grandchildren.

Blues is the foundation of everything, whether acoustically folk-style or accompanied by extravagant electric solos: see for yourself!
