Croatia Records Release Information
The new album “Shut up!…Thank you!” on LP and CD format celebrates the legacy of legendary vibraphonist Boško Petrović, an indispensable name on the Yugoslavian and Croatian jazz scene. With his personality, unique style and virtuosity, Petrović put Zagreb on the map of the world jazz scene and left an indelible mark on generations of musicians to come.
The album includes eight carefully selected original compositions from his extensive discography, among which stand out hits such as “Valse for Jazz Mama”, “Green Lobster Dream” and “With Pain I Was Born”. The album title is inspired by his famous phrase with which he would begin concert announcements at his BP Club, a legendary Zagreb club where numerous world-renowned musicians have performed.
The mastering of the original recordings was done by Goran Martinac from Croatia Records Studio, while the lacquer cut for the LP was done by Grammy-winning Sean Magee at the legendary Abbey Road Studio in London. The author of the photographs on the album is Damil Kalogjera, and the art design is the work of Nenad Dogan.
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Boško Petrović’s birth and the release of the new album “Shut up!…Thank you!”, organized by the Croatian Composers’ Association, Cantus and Croatia Records, a concert by the Jazz Continuo ensemble was held in the Small Hall of Vatroslav Lisinski.
The ensemble was created in 2012 as an idea to listen to and play Boško Petrović’s music even after his passing. The project was initiated by Boško’s closest associates and friends – Mario Mavrin, Primož Grašič and Vid Jamnik.
The concert was announced by the jazz composer and pianist Lana Janjanin, the head of jazz projects of the Croatian Composers’ Association and the Jazz.hr festival, and author of the liner notes on the album “Shut up!…Thank you!”.
The audience, in a packed hall, had the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic performance by excellent musicians in a program composed of jazz standards that Boško Petrović loved to perform at his concerts as well as his original compositions that are on the album.
The director of Croatia Records, Želimir Babogredac, addressed the audience with appropriate words and introduced this anthology edition, reminding those present of the legacy of the musical legend. He especially thanked Boško’s friends and editors of the edition, Mario Mavrin and Đorđe Kekić, as well as the cover designer Nenad Dogan.
David Gazarov and Emil Spanyi performed on two pianos, who delighted with their piano duets, the inevitable Mario Mavrin on bass, Cristophe Bras on drums and Primož Grašič on guitar.
In between the performances, instead of the classic announcements, the musicians remembered Boško through anecdotes from the time of their collaboration with him, which highlighted his personality, which is remembered by all those who had the honor of knowing him.
