On Women’s Day, which is also her birthday, Sara Renar just released her most optimistic and darkest album “Šuti i pjevaj” (Shut up and Sing), which hints at a very important message behind it.

And so it is, this is her most optimistic, but also darkest album, consisting of nine songs, the previously released “Šuti i pjevaj” (Shut up and Sing), “Kapital” (Capital) featuring Playground Hustle, “Medeja” (Medea), a new album version of the single “Držali smo se za ruke” (We Held Hands), a finalist for the Milan Mladenović Foundation award, a new version of the song “Marija budi oprezna” (Maria Be Careful), a completely new, opening track “Hana je već dugo budna” (Hana Has Been Awake for a Long Time), “U što ti vjeruješ” (What Do You Believe in), “Mlad kao mi” (Young as We Are ), and “Epilog” (Epilogue). These are nine very different songs in which, in an eclectic blend of electronic music and singer-songwriter expression, the themes of the position of women in society, religion, art, but also love, friendship and economic relationships are intertwined.

“This is certainly not an album that you want to like at all costs, it often speaks very explicitly and does not flatter the listener. However, this is also the album where I perhaps most and most vulnerable opened up until now. From the first single to today, our lives have experienced tectonic shifts and I wanted to make an album that both sonically and lyrically encompasses that madness, fear and hope,” said Sara Renar.

The first review of the album has already arrived – Karlo Rafaneli gave Music Box a rating of 4.5/5 and wrote: ““Šuti i pjevaj” is a post-apocalyptic album full of ambiguous lyrics that may or may not relate to life during a so-called pandemic. Ambiguity has been a trademark of the author’s work so far, only now it has been given a new instrumental framework with bolder, yet stronger and riskier arrangements.”

“Šuti i pjevaj” was created by Sara Renar and her numerous collaborators, from regulars – Konrad Mulvaj, Zdeslav Klarić, Vedran Peternel and Dimitrij Simović – to guest musicians – Nenad Sinkauz, Nenad Kovačić, Ivan Grobenski, Marko Lucijan Hraščanec, Hrvoje Štefanić, Luka Čapeta, Igor Pavlica and Miloš Vojvodić, the rap duo Playground Hustle, as well as guest singer-songwriters on the title track. The music and lyrics of all the songs have been written by Sara, and the final production of the album has been done by Tonota (Ivona Eterović), a brilliant young producer you will only hear about again. The cover photo is by Marina Uzelac, who is also the author of a series of corresponding photos with the songs. Sven Sorić is the author of the visual identity, and the other ear in the cover photo belongs to the actress Klara Mucci.
