Warner Music Poland Release Information
The album “Gejsza nocy” (SACD Hybrid) by Maryla Rodowicz in a limited edition, in the series “Polskie Nagrania Catalogue Selections”. This is the first edition of this album in the SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) format. The choice of this format is a nod to audiophiles.
“Gejsza nocy” (Geisha of the Night) is the quintessentially upbeat, dynamic Maryla Rodowicz in the wake of the turbulent 1980s. Instrumentally and arrangement-wise, “ Gejsza nocy ” is one of Rodowicz’s best-sounding LPs.
On the one hand, “Gejsza nocy” features a large dose of lyricism by Krajewski and Osiecka, on the other, a predatory, unbridled and at times indecent musical diversion by Korzyński and Wołek, on the third, Sikorowski’s own, strongly Cracovian touch. However, it proved possible to combine these aesthetics into one coherent sounding whole.
Much of the credit for this goes to the Police II studio group led by Marek Stefankiewicz, the composer of “Franek” (Francis) and author of most of the arrangements. The performers included Rodowicz’s regular accompanists (Ciborowski, Kleszczewski, Sygitowicz), as well as session musicians of the highest calibre (Ścierański, Skowron, among others), and instrumentalists working closely with Rodowicz and Korzyński (Żak, Chróst and Perliński).
The album includes songs such as “Niech żyje bal” (Long Live the Ball), “Szparka sekretarka” (Secretary’s Cracker), “Dobranoc panowie” (Good Night, Gentlemen). The album is accompanied by the English version “Long Live the Ball” of Maryla’s immortal hit “Niech żyje bal”.
