Pavian Records Release Information
Dežo Ursiny’s album “Let’s Make a Summer” is a historical document that maps the second half of the 60s, the first years of the career of this legendary musician. It is a faithful picture of the time in which Czechoslovakian beat was born, but also a look at the compositional development that Ursiny went through in that short period of time.
The first half of the album belongs to songs from the days of The Beatmen, a group that enjoyed success similar to Beatlemania in its time. Already there, Dežo Ursiny showed his great songwriting talent in songs such as “Let’s Make a Summer” or “Break It”, which did not lag behind in comparison with foreign productions. Ursiny’s second band, The Soulmen, was another significant artistic mark. This era is represented by a quartet of songs taken from a period EP, which is the only one to capture the trio’s songs.
Lesser known, but no less important, was the brief existence of The New Soulmen, from whose period the album’s final two songs come. These were already foreshadowing the coming decade in which Ursiny would emerge as a full-blooded art rock musician.
