Supraphon Release Information
An essential album + a massive concert addition
In 1970, still as the Rangers, they recorded this second studio album. It was an excellent follow-up to the successful first one and a major step beyond the shadow of the original acoustic line-up. The musicians M. Dufek, A. Hajek, M. Řihošek, R. Tomášek, J. Vančura and J. Veisser took a decisive step towards well-deserved popularity in the many seasons to come.
Accompanied by the orchestra of the conductor Štěpán Koníček, they moved from the version for the Porta festival to melodic almost pop, built on an attractive repertoire, excellent singing and lyrics specially written for the band. Several solo vocalists, often combined in an extraordinary multi-part vocal, successfully dared the repertoire with the scent of US American traditionals (“Pole s bavlnou” (Cotton Fields) or “Vím, vím” (Green, Green)) or local traditional country (“Král silnic” (King of the Road), “Rocky Top” or “Já procházel se jednou” (Company of Cowards)).
After twelve studio recordings, you get a repertoire with an album with a partly overlapping concert encore. A total of 15 songs, recorded in 1970 at the E. F. Burian Theatre, are accompanied by expert and entertaining lyrics (M. Černý and P. Nárožný). This CD is a bit of a sign of the times. The insights of M. Skalka, M. Černý and J. Veisser in the booklet explain what was not allowed to be sung, and that only the following album could be described as Rangers. The stylish cover with a picture of Aleš Striegl hides a good chunk of our memories.
