37 Czech rock ballads (not only) for Valentine’s Day

The latest continuation of the series of compilation 2CDs from the history of our rock focuses on ballads. It is undoubted that many of these songs accompanied our adolescence at gramophones or tape recorders, at concerts and discos, but also in quite intimate moments. Ploužáky, cajdáky či dojáky (Crawlers, sleds or milkers) are slang for songs in loose tempos, with the chance to enjoy heartfelt singing of often important lyrics. These made some of the songs more than just beautiful to listen to, but also a sign of the times, illustrating a more or less hidden resistance to “normalization” and music censorship.

From the late sixties to the late eighties, such is the temporal and stylistic scope of the nearly forty songs on this genre-conciliatory compilation. Melodic big beat echoes, various hard rock experiments, connections with folk or blues, modern synth instruments, intensely singing ladies and the luxurious music of the late eighties are all next to each other here. The important balladeers are Vladimír Mišík, Petr Novák, Jiří Schelinger, Petr Janda, L.ešek Semelka, Luboš Pospíšil or Michal Prokop, but there are also other great evokers of pleasant memories.
