Her greatest hits with soul!

Selecting Marie Rottrová’s soul recordings is a great joy and a bit of a worry. Filling one CD is a fairly quick action, but doubts may remain: is everything really the most important stuff on there? Marie herself has chosen and compiled a happy twenty-one songs, perfectly representing her heart’s business: soul, blues, gospel or black dance music.

Her Ostrava beginnings were strongly influenced by the black music listened to on Radio Luxembourg, played at teas and later recorded in the radio studio with The Majestic and Flamingo. Her releases on Supraphon singles and albums earned her a great reputation and earned her the nickname “Lady Soul”. Gradually, however, she partially abandoned this well-crafted, but over time somewhat limiting musical form. However, she undoubtedly carried her soulfulness, i.e. soulfulness and sensitivity, into all her singing that followed, so the label will always apply.

Marie Rottrová, also in concert and often with her former singing colleague Petr Nemec, likes to return to that repertoire. They are important parts of her successful career, songs with a powerful energy, excellent Czech lyrics for cover versions (V. Cort, A. Brumovská, Z. Borovec, P. Vrba or J. Fikejzová) and successful domestic contributions from the Flamingo / Plamenáci circle, but also from the pen of Jaroslav Wykrent. Songs that always impress with their expressive and perfectly phrased singing and a considerable amount of unpretentious experience.
