Supraphon Release Information

“Ležatá osmička” (The Lying Eight) is basically a loop, and Tata Bojs work with those, both in the musical sense, but also in general very often. They move in different cycles, they repeat themselves, but they’re still Tata Bojs. And like many other artists, they are caught up in this paradox: We’ll never sound completely new again, but equally, we’ll never sound exactly like in the old days.

The album is musically and thematically diverse. A red thread of the aforementioned repetition, of looping, runs through the lyrics. However, the fabric of which the album is composed has more colours than just red. There is a vision of the relatively near future, an outline of the past and the status of all mankind, even the apocalypse, and last but not least several songs dealing with human relationships and communication. Despite the themes outlined, the album is definitely not overly “heavy” or too serious. Tata Bojs work with the themes, even the more serious ones, in an entertaining way if possible.

Musically, the album is as song-like as possible, with the most effective arrangements. No excessive “layering” and clutter. Only the strongest ideas remain. The sound of the album is modern, but not spasmodically “trendy”. Likewise, it is retro in some aspects, which is actually often just modern.

The album “Ležatá osmička” will be different in many ways from the band’s recent efforts. The production of the album this time was directed solely by Milan Cais, the mixing of the album was done in the studios of Sono Records and taken care of by Milan Cimfe. He mixed “Futuretro” 11 years ago, nominated for “Album dvacetiletí” (Album of the Twenty Years) this year. It all fits into the theme of repetition.

Guests on the album include the complete Clarinet Factory, a chamber orchestra conducted by the band’s former guitarist Mark Doubrava and, surprisingly, Vladimir 518 in one of the album’s strongest songs, named Světová (World). The first taste is the pilot single, quite symbolically named “Opakování” (Repetition).

Will “Ležatá osmička” stir up the stagnant waters of the Czech music scene? Will it make waves or will it blend in? Sign, boobs, kraul? Considering its logo, the best swimming style would probably be “bow tie”.
