Crossfire-Metal Release Information

Meteora hail from Budapest. The band was founded in 2010 and initially played cover versions of symphonic and gothic metal songs. They played the clubs of their home city. The line-up has obviously been stable since 2017. The debut album “Our Paradise” was self-released in the same year. In 2019 they signed a label deal with Nail Records, so that their second CD “Tragedy of Delusion” was released on this label. Their third album “...of Shades and Colours” has been released on the H Music label.

As with many other symphonic metal works, the first thing you hear here is a bombastic intro. And as is so often the case, “Downfall” doesn’t really ignite. Instead, “Wings of Rebellion” blasts powerfully out of the speakers. And as so often, you can hear the interplay between clear vocals and growls by Máté Fülöp.

But something is different. Noémi Holló’s vocals are not as operatic as many other female metal singers. And there is also a male clear vocal by Atilla Király. A similar vocal constellation to Amaranthe. But with less pop. More power metal, more symphonic and guitar solos. “Danse Macabre” forms a small contrast, it is somewhat darker. The vocal guest is Chris Harms (Lord of the Lost). Singer Noémi moves to higher pitches. “Slave of Creation” sounds a little harsher again with heavy riffs and driving drumming. The vocals become even more operatic in places of “Voices within”. In “Newborn Violence”, the “Beauty and the Beast” double act becomes more dominant than before. A little later, an unnecessary gap filler follows with “Awakening”. Instead, “Pests – Tragedy of Delusion (pt II) ” stomps majestically along.

After the ballad “Home”, dominated by strings and piano, and the progressive eight-minute epic “Waking Nightmare”, “Trail to Eden“ is the next dispensable interlude. “Immortal“ is a rollercoaster of emotions, bombastic orchestrations, roaring guitars, and abrupt changes in melody and rhythm. In my opinion a bit too much was packed into this song. The final track is the title track “...of Shades and Colours”, which is also the longest song on the album with a playing time of more than ten minutes. After a contemplative start, you can hear an alternation of hard passages with equally hard growls and quieter sections with beguiling female vocals. Here, too, you can hear a strong progressive flavour.
