The annual return of the iconic compilation

Vladimir Mišík is not a fan of grouping songs into new selections, but he does make the rare exception from time to time. The 1993 debut was a look back at the first part of his still highly successful career as a rock singer-songwriter. The more or less chronological order of the songs demonstrates that the great beginnings in Blue Effect and Flamengo were replaced by finding a path all his own in the mid-seventies.

It didn’t involve sonic enticements in the form of synthesizers or other studio and electronic aids, but the essence was always in the strong guitar melodies, carefully chosen lyrics, great musicians in ETC... and above all in the unique singer, the storyteller. From the original rhythm-and-blues or almost hard rock, Mišík has happily met many other influences, led by folk ones.

There’s no point in listing all the songs, but in a simplified form, for example, “Kuře” (Chicken), “Hrob” (Grave), “Růže” (Rose), “Chlapeček” (Little Boy), “Taxůvka” (Taxi Driver), “Renesance” (Renaissance), “Tma” (Darkness), “20 deka” (20 blankets) or “Šmajdák” (Stumpy) are great offerings. Complemented by the titular “Špejchar blues” (Spychar Blues), the line-up is practically perfect. It has rightly been given a new mastering this year from the maximum available tapes (Sono studio) and wrapped in a variation on the original custom cover (Karel Haloun plus Luděk Kubík). Not all compilations can be described as legendary, but this one certainly is.
